Brodeur out for Monday, Frazee called up

newjerseydevils.com – Martin Brodeur will not start Monday against the Sabres after suffering a bruised elbow in Saturday's 6-1 win over Atlanta.

Brodeur was set to undergo an X-ray and MRI Sunday, and will see his streak of consecutive regular-season starts end at a career-high 51 games dating back to Jan. 8 of last season. Goaltender Jeff Frazee, the Devils' second choice in 2005, has been called up from Trenton (ECHL) under emergency conditions.

Brodeur made five saves before leaving Saturday's game 6:38 into the second period. He was relieved by Kevin Weekes who posted 14 stops as Brodeur picked up career win No. 544. The four-time Vezina Trophy winner needs seven victories to tie Patrick Roy's all-time mark of 551, and sits 22 appearances shy of 1,000 games played.

Matt Halischuk has been assigned to Lowell (AHL). Halischuk, New Jersey's fourth pick in 2007, was called up on Oct. 28 under emergency conditions and registered his first career point with an assist against Toronto on Oct. 29.
