Elias, 30, will be entering his ninth National Hockey League season, all with New Jersey.  The 6-1, 195-lb. forward recorded 16 goals and 29 assists for 45 points while appearing in just 38 regular-season games this past year.  Elias made his 2005-06 debut January 3, after missing most of the season with hepatitis-A.  The native of Trebic, Czech Republic led the club with 16 points in nine playoff games, including a team record-tying 11 points in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals vs. the NY Rangers.  Elias’ 11 points included a career-high six points in the series-opener.  His career totals show 223 goals and 281 assists for 504 points and 295 penalty minutes in 596 regular-season games.  Elias ranks third on the Devils’ all-time points-scoring list;  is second in goals, eighth in assists, and tenth in games played.  His 94 post-season points are the most in franchise history, as are his 34 goals (tie), and 60 assists.

 

Elias was named to the NHL’s First All-Star Team in 2001, the All-Rookie Team in 1998, appeared in the 2000 and 2002 All-Star Games, and was co-winner of the league’s Plus/Minus Award in 2001.  He has represented the Czech Republic at the 2002 and 2006 Olympic Winter Games, the 2004 World Cup, as well as the 1998 World Championships.  Elias was New Jersey’s second choice, and 51st overall selection in the 1994 Entry Draft.
