Devils Name Patrik Elias Team Captain
Winger Becomes Seventh Captain in New Jersey History

East Rutherford, NJ (Oct. 5. 2006) – The New Jersey Devils named left wing Patrik Elias as the seventh captain in team history. He will wear the “C” for the first time tomorrow night, October 6, in the team’s season-opener at Carolina. The announcement was made by Devils CEO/President/General Manager Lou Lamoriello.

Elias, 30, becomes the seventh captain in team history, following Don Lever (1982-83-Jan. 9, 1984), Mel Bridgman (Jan. 9, 1984-Mar. 9, 1987), Kirk Muller (June 18, 1987-Sept. 20, 1991), Bruce Driver (Oct. 5, 1991-Sept. 24, 1992), Scott Stevens (Sept. 24, 1992-Sept. 6, 2005), and Scott Niedermayer (Jan. 9, 2004-Aug. 4, 2005).
