newjerseydevils.com – Claude Lemieux charged up the wing and blasted the puck by Flyers goaltender Ron Hextall at the Continental Airlines Arena on Sunday night.

Then Scott Stevens unleashed a slap shot from center, picked up his own rebound and slid a backhander past Penguins netminder Ken Wregget.

Finally, Jason Arnott slipped behind a pair of Dallas defenders and slammed home the overtime winner to bring the Stanley Cup back to New Jersey.

Of course, the real trio of Lemieux, Stevens and Arnott was nowhere near the Meadowlands ice on Sunday. But in the hearts of the Devils fans in attendance, the memories of those players’ achievements remained as fresh as ever.

As part of the season-long celebration of their 25th anniversary, the Devils have counted down the 25 Most Memorable Moments in team history based on fan voting. Over 80,000 votes were received, and the Devils unveiled Moments 21, 20 and 19 in video montages during the game against Boston on March 4.

Lemieux’s goal – the winning marker against Philadelphia in Game 5 of the 1995 Eastern Conference Championships – was chosen at No. 21. The Captain’s goal against the Penguins in Game 2 of the 1995 Eastern Conference Semifinals, and Arnott’s Stanley Cup-winning goal in Game 6 of the 2000 Finals were selected at No. 20 and No. 19, respectively.

“It was the biggest goal of my life,” Arnott, who now plays in Nashville, has said of the play. “I think it’s the biggest goal that anyone, growing up as a kid, dreams of doing.”

There are 18 Most Memorable Moments remaining in the countdown, which will be revealed over the course of the Devils’ final six home games of the regular season.

For Devils fans everywhere, that means 18 more chances to relive the sights and sounds of the most unforgettable moments in 25 years of New Jersey Devils hockey.
