Mark Johnson leads Badgers to second title

The former Olympic gold medalist and one-time Devil won a second consecutive national title as coach of the University of Wisconsin Badgers women’s ice hockey team with a 4-1 victory over Minnesota Duluth in the championship game at Lake Placid, N.Y. on Sunday.
Wisconsin (36-1-4) came in as the top seed in the NCAA Div. I tournament thanks to a 26-game unbeaten streak, and 12 consecutive victories to cap the season. Its only loss was to Minnesota Duluth on Nov. 24.
Johnson, who scored two goals in the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team’s upset of the Soviet Union, spent five seasons with the Devils from 1985-86 to 1989-90.
