APRIL 27, 1999:
newjerseydevils.com – Eight years ago today, Sergei Brylin and Randy McKay scored 1:33 apart, and the Devils took game four of their 1999 Eastern Conference Quarterfinal with a 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The road victory evened the first-round series at two games apiece, and ended a streak of seven consecutive road playoff losses.
The Devils scored the first goal, and never trailed in the contest, scoring four goals on the road for the first time since game three of the 1997 Quarterfinals against Montreal.
McKay gave the Devils a 2-1 lead in the closing seconds of the first period with a tip-in of a Brylin shot, and 51 seconds later, Brylin beat Pittsburgh goaltender Tom Barrasso with a slap shot for his second goal of the series, giving the Devils a two-goal lead at 3-1.
Both Brylin and McKay finished with a goal and an assist, and Scott Stevens and Brian Rolston each added a goal, as the Devils outshot Pittsburgh 39-18.
Martin Brodeur stopped 16 of 18 Penguin shots for the win.
