FINLAND KNOCKS OFF U.S. IN WORLD QUARTERS

newjerseydevils.com – Jere Lehtinen scored the lone goal in the shootout to give Finland a 5-4 victory over Team USA today in the quarterfinal round of the 2007 IIHF World Championship in Moscow.

Finland will now play Russia in Saturday's first semifinal, while Sweden will face Canada in the other semi.

Toby Petersen, Tyler Arnason, Lee Stempniak and Andrew Hutchinson scored for the U.S., which recorded four wins in seven tournament games.

Finnish goalie Kari Lehtonen recorded 28 saves in regulation and 10 minutes of 4-on-4 overtime before edging U.S. goaltender John Grahame, who faced 35 shots.

Devils' forward Zach Parise, who was added to the U.S. team on Tuesday, recorded three shots in the contest.
