Greene, Corrente and Viuhkola Inked to New Deals
newjerseydevils.com – The Devils signed three players to contracts on Wednesday: defensemen Andy Greene and Matthew Corrente, as well as forward Jari Viuhkola. The announcement was made by Devils’ CEO/President/General Manager Lou Lamoriello. As per club policy, no further terms were disclosed.
Greene, 24, re-signs with the Devils after completing his first professional season. He split 2006-07 between Lowell (AHL) and New Jersey, making his NHL debut on January 12 vs. Atlanta. Greene recorded five goals and 16 assists for 21 points and 28 penalty minutes in 52 AHL appearances through February 25. He also represented PlanetUSA at the 2007 AHL All-Star Game. The 5-11, 195-lb. defenseman completed the season with New Jersey, posting one goal and five assists for six points and six penalty minutes in 23 regular-season contests.

Corrente, 19, was New Jersey’s first choice and 30th overall selection of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-0, 195-lb. defenseman spent 2006-07 with both Saginaw and Mississauga (OHL) after two full seasons with the Spirit.
Corrente totaled three goals and 23 assists for 26 points and 94 penalty minutes in 43 regular-season games overall last season, while adding one assist and eight penalty minutes in five playoff contests. Born in Mississauga, Ont., he will attend his second Devils/NHL training camp in September.
Born in Oulu, Fin., Viuhkola has represented his country during each of the last three World Championships, winning a Silver Medal in 2007, and a Bronze Medal in 2006. He also participated in the 2000 World Junior Championship. Viuhkola was originally Chicago’s fourth choice and 158th overall selection in 1998.
