The Devils have selected forward Mike Hoeffel with their first pick, 57th overall, of the 2007 Entry Draft.

The 6-2, 186-lb. native of North Oaks, Minn., is a power forward with excellent speed and skating stride according to the NHL's Central Scouting Report, and is known to play tough in the corners and around the net.

Hoeffel played for Minnesota's Hill-Murray School in 2005-06, scoring 27 goals and 46 assists in 30 games, and won a silver medal in 2006 with the U.S. Under-18 Selects at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament in the Czech Republic. The 18-year-old will attend the University of Minnesota this fall.

Hoeffel has said he patterns his game after fellow Minnesotan Zach Parise because "he is always the hardest working player in the ice, and I look up to that."
