Devils Open Prudential Center on October 27
NEWARK, N.J. – The National Hockey League has announced that the Atlantic Division Champion New Jersey Devils will open their new home – Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey – on Saturday, October 27, when they host the Eastern Conference Champion Ottawa Senators at 7:00 PM in a rematch of last season’s conference semifinals.

The October 27 contest opens a three-game Eastern Conference homestand, including: Wednesday, October 31 vs. Tampa Bay, and Friday, November 2 vs. Toronto. The club will open its 26th season with a franchise-record nine-game roadtrip, beginning Thursday, October 4 at Tampa Bay, and concluding three weeks later on Thursday, October 25 at the NY Rangers.

The Devils’ home-opener also marks the first of 23 weekend home dates including: 14 Friday night matches, five Saturday games, and four Sunday contests. Other highlights of the team’s first season in Newark include two season-high five-game homestands: Wed., Nov. 28 through Fri., Dec. 7 and Thu., Jan. 24 through Mon., Feb 4. All five Pacific Division teams will visit Newark this season, including the Stanley Cup Champion Anaheim Ducks on Fri., Feb. 8. The new start time for all evening home games this season is 7:00 PM.

The home schedule features four matinee games: Sat., Dec. 15 vs. Phoenix (1:00 PM); Mon., Feb. 18 vs. Carolina (1:00 PM); Sat., Feb. 23 vs. NY Islanders (1:00 PM); and the regular-season finale Sun., Apr. 6 vs. NY Rangers (3:00 PM). There are also three 5:00 PM home starts: Sun., Dec. 2 vs. Atlanta; Sun., Dec. 16 vs. Philadelphia; and Sun., Jan. 20 vs. Toronto.

The nine-game/22-day roadtrip to start the season includes four Atlantic Division matches, one Northeast Division contest, and four Southeast Division games. The club will visit five Western Conference teams this season, with stops: Tue., Dec. 18 at Vancouver; Fri., Dec. 21 at Edmonton; Sun., Dec. 23 at Calgary; Thu., Mar. 13 at Minnesota; and Sat., Mar. 15 at Colorado.

The schedule format has the Devils playing eight games against each of their Atlantic Division opponents (32 games), and four matches vs. each of the remaining teams in the Eastern Conference (40 games). This season, each Atlantic Division team will play one home game vs. each team in the Pacific Division, and one road game at each of the Northwest Division cities (10 games).

Prudential Center will open on Thursday, October 25 with the first of ten performances by Bon Jovi. It is the first major indoor professional sports and entertainment venue to be built in the metropolitan New Jersey/New York region in 25 years. The $375 million venue includes a $210 million investment by the city of Newark with the remainder coming from the New Jersey Devils ownership group. Prudential Center will generate significant annual rent and revenue sharing for the city of Newark, America’s third oldest and New Jersey’s largest city.

Designed by world-renowned architects and facility design specialists H+O+K, the arena has a seating capacity of 17,625 for hockey, 18,500 for basketball, and 19,500 for concerts, with a full-size practice facility for hockey that seats 800. The amenities in Prudential Center are world class including: a 4,800-sq. foot LED/HD quality big-screen television monitor, two high-end club lounges, a bar and terrace area, 350-seat restaurant, 2,200 Club Seats, and 78 Luxury Suites, among the largest in North America for any professional sport. For further information, visit prucenter.com.
