Work Underway on Mulberry St. Marquee

A worker sees to what will soon be one of the largest LED screens in the world.

newjerseydevils.com – The Devils are closer to getting their name in lights at Prudential Center.

Work is already underway on the massive LED screen that will shine down onto Mulberry St. when the Devils' new home opens in Newark, N.J. this October. Bon Jovi will perform in concert on Oct. 25 in the first-ever event at the brand-new arena, and the Devils will host the Ottawa Senators two days later on Oct. 27.

By then, 19 strips of blazing LED light will comprise the exterior marquee, which, at 49 ft. high and 90 ft. wide, will stand as one of the largest in the world.

Daktronics Inc., recognized as the world's leading provider of LED video displays, was contracted to manufacture and install the one-of-a-kind screen.

"We are extremely pleased with the unique solution Daktronics developed for our building," Jim Cima of Devils Renaissance Development said. "I know their system for Prudential Center will be an incredible piece of this great building."

As impressive as the Mulberry view is expected to be, the state-of-the-art screen technology inside the arena is sure to have fans coming back for more.

High above the 17,625-capacity seating bowl, the center-hung scoreboard will feature four primary video screens configured in a 16:9 aspect ratio to accommodate high definition video. The whole rig will measure 30 ft. tall and 32 ft wide, and will weigh in at 65,000 lbs.

In addition to the main scoreboard, the arena will boast five LED ribbons, including a 940-ft. display around the circumference of the seating bowl.

"We are pleased to work with Devils Renaissance Development, ICON Venue Group, and others that have developed this great venue," said Jay Parker, National Sales Manager for Daktronics Large Sports Venue group. "We developed integrated super systems for nine other NHL venues, so Devils fans have seen out technologies at work – but this will be something special."
