Brodeur passes Parent on \'15 to Remember\'

Brodeur collects win No. 48 in Philadelphia on April 5, surpassing Bernie Parent's 33-year-old record.

newjerseydevils.com – With Martin Brodeur poised to eclipse Bernie Parent's single-season mark for wins in a season, the former Flyer remained one of Brodeur's biggest supporters.

This week's "15 to Remember" on FOX Sports Net New York (Wednesday, 8 p.m.) takes fans back to April 5 for the Devils' 3-2 win over the Flyers in Philadelphia.

Brodeur made 34 saves, including one on a second-period breakaway, for his 48th win of the season, surpassing Parent's 33-year-old NHL record. The Devils also set a new franchise mark with their 49th victory, and clinched their seventh Atlantic Division title.

"It's kind of great to have that many wins," Brodeur said. "When you start the game, my first thing is 'I want to win.' When you have a lot of starts, you have a chance to do it more and more."

Parent had said before the game he was rooting for Brodeur.

"This is his year," Parent said of the Devils' netminder. "He's played fantastic hockey. It couldn't have happened to a more fantastic individual."

Sergei Brylin and Jamie Langenbrunner each scored power-play goals for the Devils. But after the game, the focus was on Brodeur.

"Martin is the best goalie in the league as far as I'm concerned," Parent said. "He has the passion to play the game like a 22-year-old kid and that to me is a wonderful thing."

The Devils completed the season series against the Flyers with a 7-0-1 mark, matching the most wins by either team in the history of the series (Phi., 7-0-0, '83-84).
