newjerseydevils.com – Hall-of-Fame defenseman Larry Robinson's No. 19 will be retired by the Montréal Canadiens in a pre-game ceremony at the Bell Centre on November 19, it has been announced.

Robinson spent the first 17 seasons of his 20-year career with the Canadiens, and was a member of six Stanley Cup Championship teams in Montréal. The two-time winner of the Norris Trophy for best defenseman never missed the postseason as a player, and his 20 playoff seasons are tied for third most in NHL history.

Robinson's pro career began with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs of the AHL in 1971-72. After recording 39 points in 38 games to begin the '72-73 season, he was promoted to the Canadiens, and appeared in his first NHL game on January 8, 1973.

By the end of his playing days with the Canadiens, Robinson's name was at the top of nearly every offensive category for a Habs defensemen. He leads Montréal defenders in regular season games played (1,202), goals (197), assists (686) and points (883), and set team records in 1976-77 with 66 assists and 85 points.

The Winchester, Ontario, native played in nine NHL All-Star games and represented Canada in four Canada Cup tournaments. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1995, and will be the 13th player in Canadiens' history to have his number retired.

Robinson was named as a Devils assistant coach on July 25, and will enter his 11th season with New Jersey. He has previously served as head coach, assistant coach and special assignment coach, and was just the third coach in NHL history to take over a team in mid-season and win a Stanley Cup.
