Salvador ready to contribute for New Jersey

newjerseydevils.com –
Bryce Salvador knows what he brings to the equation.

Acquired by the Devils in exchange for Cam Janssen the morning of Tuesday's trading deadline, Salvador is well regarded for his rugged, physical play.

After learning of the trade, Salvador arrived at his New Jersey hotel room shortly after 10 p.m.  on Tuesday night. He spoke to reporters Wednesday morning.

"I hope to bring some veteran leadership," Salvador said. "I've been fortunate to have been with one organization for my whole career, and I hope I can bring some steady defensive play to New Jersey."

A native of Brandon, Manitoba, Salvador is in his seventh NHL season, having spent all of them with the St. Louis Blues. The 32-year-old rearguard knows firsthand the value of a team approach that promotes development from within.

"I'm really excited to be coming to the Devils," said Salvador, who will wear No. 24. "They're an organization that has had a lot of players come up through the system like I did in St. Louis, and that means a lot to me. It shows that they believe in their personnel and they believe in character. They believe in taking a young hockey player, drafting him and helping him turn into an NHL player."

With a goal and 10 assists this season, Salvador offers an offensive upside. But his plus-12 rating might be his most notable stat.

Along with former defensive partner Eric Brewer, Salvador comprised one half of the shutdown pairing in St. Louis that matched up against top forwards on opposing teams. That experience will be a valuable commodity for the Devils as they look to keep opponents off the scoresheet over the final 18 games of the regular season.

"I hope to bring a presence that's tough to play against, where I outwork you in the corners," Salvador said. "I'm just really looking forward to meeting the guys and winning."
