Brodeur earns 'Second Star' honors

newjerseydevils.com – Martin Brodeur has been named the NHL's Second Star for the week ending March 9.
Brodeur posted a 3-0-0 record with a 0.98 goals-against average and .972 save percentage as the Devils (40-23-6, 86 points) moved into first place in the Eastern Conference.
The Devils' netminder made 41 saves for a 4-1 victory over the Maple Leafs on Tuesday, and followed it up with a 21-save effort in Friday's 2-1 decision over the Lightning. He closed out the week by posting a season-high 42 stops against the Leafs in the Devils' 2-1 win at the Air Canada Centre on Saturday.
Brodeur ranks second among NHL goaltenders with 38 victories and is among the league leaders in goals-against average (third, 2.12) and save percentage (second, .922).
The defending Vezina Trophy winner is two victories shy of posting his NHL-record seventh 40-win season and becoming the first goaltender in league history to post three consecutive 40-win campaigns.
This marks the second time in less than a month that Brodeur has received the NHL's weekly honor. He was named the league's Third Star on Feb. 24.
Washington's Alexander Ovechkin and San Jose's Joe Thornton were announced as the First and Third Star, respectively.
