Madden named finalist for Selke Trophy
Devils center seeks second career honor as top defensive forward
The Barrie, Ontario native led Devils forwards in shorthanded goals (three), average ice time per game (19:26) and average shorthanded minutes per game (3:35). He ranked seventh among NHL forwards in face-offs taken with 1,463 and posted a 53.7% face-off winning percentage. The Devils posted the top defensive record in the Eastern Conference and fourth in the NHL overall with 197 goals-against.
Madden is a Selke finalist for the fourth time; he captured the award in 2000-01 and was runner-up in 2002-03 and 2003-04. Detroit's Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg were also named as this year's finalists.
Madden is the second Devil to have been named as an award finalist for 2007-08. Martin Brodeur was announced on Monday as a finalist for the Vezina Trophy given to the league's top goaltender.
Members of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association submitted ballots for the Selke Trophy at the conclusion of the regular season, with the top three vote-getters announced as finalists. The winner will be announced Thursday, June 12 during the 2008 NHL Awards Television Special,
which will be broadcast live in the United States on VERSUS from Toronto.
