newjerseydevils.com – Devils forward Zach Parise has been named an alternate captain of the 2008 U.S. Men's National Team, it was announced on Monday.

Tampa Bay's Jeff Halpern was named team captain, while Boston's Mark Stuart was also selected as an alternate.

Team USA downed Sweden Sunday night by a 5-1 count at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine, in its lone tune-up prior to beginning play in the 72nd annual International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship against Latvia in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Friday.

The U.S. is finishing its training camp today through Wednesday at the Family Ice Center in Falmouth, Maine, prior to heading to Halifax.

This year's World Championship Tournament is set for May 2-18 in Quebec City, Quebec and Halifax. All 56 games from the 2008 IIHF Men's World Championship will be broadcast live on WCSN.com.
