D Matt Delahey selected in fourth round
Strong stay-at-home defenseman with solid work ethic
Delahey, 18, posted 3 goals and 16 assists with Regina (WHL) in 2007-08, the most productive of his four seasons with the Pats.
The 6-1, 215-lb. native of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, is described by Central Scouting as a puck moving defenseman that doesn't panic under pressure. He was ranked 67th among North American prospects.
"Matt Delahey's stock is rising even faster than his numbers," wrote Greg Harder of the Regina Leader-Post. "Both have gone through the roof during a recent jump in ice time with the Regina Pats, who heaped considerable responsibility upon the second-year WHLer while their blueline was decimated by a succession of trades, injuries and international assignments.
"In the midst of all the chaos, the 18-year-old rearguard provided a constant, steadying influence that allowed the Pats to hold the fort until reinforcements arrived."
Delahey has said he patterns his game after his favorite players Chris Chelios and Nicklas Lidstrom.
