newjerseydevils.com – Devils prospects Mike Hoeffel, Nick Palmieri and David Wohlberg are among 53 of the United States' top players under the age of 20 currently taking part in the 2008 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp at Lake Placid, N.Y.

Each skater is competing for a spot on the U.S. National Junior Team that will take part in the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship from Dec. 26, 2008 to Jan. 5, 2009 in Ottawa.

The camp, which opened last Friday, features practices and eight international games with a split U-20 squad taking on Sweden and Finland. The first international games were set to begin on Monday, Aug. 5 at the 1980 Rink Herb Brooks Arena at the Olympic Center.

Hoeffel, 19, was New Jersey's first choice, 57th overall, in the 2007 Entry Draft. The 6-2, 185-lb. left wing collected nine goals and 10 assists in 45 games with the University of Minnesota (WCHA) in 2007-08. Hoeffel is a native of North Oaks, Minn.

Palmieri, 19, was the Devils' second pick in 2007 and spent last season at Erie (OHL), where he amassed 28 goals and 18 assists in 50 games. Born in Utica, N.Y., the 6-3, 215-lb. right wing also had a goal in nine appearances with Lowell (AHL) in '07-08.

Wohlberg, 18, was taken with the Devils' seventh choice in the 2008 Draft. A member of the bronze medal-winning 2008 U.S. National Under-18 Team, Wohlberg will play at the University of Michigan (CCHA) this fall. The 6-1, 190-lb. center is a native of South Lyons, Mich.

Coaching the 2009 U.S. National Junior Team will be Ron Rolston, brother of Devils' forward Brian.
