Ramsey's Matt Braun made 40 saves Saturday to shut out Kinnelon, 2-0, in the Public B title game at Prudential Center.

John Kirk and Tyler Bishop scored for the Rams, who dethroned the defending champion Colts. In its first trip to the New Jersey Devils/NJSIAA Championships presented by Chase, Ramsey became the first Bergen County school to capture a state title.

Braun made 31 saves in the final 40 minutes, including 12 in the third period. Ramsey went 1-for-2 on the man advantage, and killed six straight Kinnelon power plays over the final two periods.

Kirk opened the scoring to put Ramsey ahead 1-0 in the first. Patrick Rutkowski fired on goal from the high slot, and Kirk skated across the top of the crease for a redirection at 10:48.

Ramsey nearly added to its lead on captain Jonathan Rainey's breakaway 38 seconds later, but Kinnelon netminder Jeff Molnar snagged it with his catcing glove at 11:26. Kinnelon outshot Ramsey, 40-26.

Kinnelon's Mike Crampton's wrist shot caught the right post behind Mike Braun with 1:50 left in the opening frame.

Tyler Bishop gave Ramsey a two-goal edge in the second period with Pete Crampton in the box for hooking. Bishop stripped the puck from Kinnelon defenseman Billy Huber, and skated in for a wrister from the left circle that beat Molnar at 3:18.

Kinnelon killed off Mike Crampton's roughing minor at 3:57, then misfired on three man-advantage opportunities in the second period. Molnar made a shorthanded save on Bishop with 6:00 left in the second, and later denied Frank Libretti's shorthanded breakaway.

Ramsey's Jonathan Rainey lifted a backhander over the net on his shorthanded breakaway late in the middle frame.

The Rams killed three power plays in the third, and finished the game on the PK after Rainey's rough with 1:54 remaining. The Colts pulled Molnar with 1:03 left, but couldn't solve Braun, who was named the All-Tournament goaltender.
