Devils 2009-10 schedule released
Newark, NJ – The Atlantic Division Champion New Jersey Devils will open their 2009-10 regular-season schedule at Prudential Center on Saturday, October 3 vs. Philadelphia at 7:00 PM.  The club will also host NY Rangers on Monday, October 5, before opening the road portion of its schedule Thursday, October 8 at Tampa Bay at 7:30 PM.

More than half of the Devils’ home schedule will be played on the weekend, including 12 Friday matches, eight Saturday games, and two Sunday contests.  The team will host a season-high five-game homestand December 9-18:  Wed., Dec. 9 vs. Carolina;  Fri., Dec. 11 vs. Florida;  Sat., Dec. 12 vs. Philadelphia;  Wed., Dec. 16 vs. Montreal;  and Fri., Dec. 18 vs. Ottawa.  Other highlights of the home schedule include a 1:00 PM matinee on Sat., Nov. 28 vs. NY Islanders, as well as two 5:00 PM starts:  Sun., Jan. 31 vs. Los Angeles and the season-finale, Sun., Apr. 11 vs. Buffalo.  All remaining home games are set for 7:00 PM.

New Jersey will play a season-high five-game road trip January 9-18, with stops at Montreal, NY Rangers, Phoenix, Colorado, and NY Islanders.  The club will play at Carolina on Sat., Feb. 13 prior to the 16-day Winter Olympic Break, and return to action Tue., Mar. 2 at San Jose.

Under the league’s scheduling matrix, each club will play every other club a minimum once per season.  Each team will play the teams in its division three times at home and three times on the road, for a total of 24 games.  Each club will continue to play 40 games inside its conference but outside its division, twice at home and twice on the road.  The remaining 18 games will involve each team playing every team in the other conference at least once, home or away, with the three remaining games being devoted to interconference “at-large” scheduling.  The Devils’ three “at-large” opponents for 2009-10 are Chicago, Dallas, and Nashville.
