Devils fall to Flyers in home opener
9:34p Devils come up short in their home opener with a 5-2 loss.

Langenbrunner shorthanded goal cuts it to 5-2 Flyers at 13:40 of the third. The captain broke up a play in the D zone and raced up ice for a cross-ice feed from Zubrus. Langenbrunner fired the puck by Emery's blocker side for the Devils' second goal of the night. Both tallies have come on special teams (PPG, SHG).

9:20p Matt Carle wrister from the left circle puts Flyers back on top by four at 11:13. Devils trail, 5-1.

Rolston PP blast over Emery's shoulder puts the Devils on the board in the third period. Bergfors found Rolston at the top of the left circle for an absolute rocket to cut the deficit to 4-1 at 9:44.

9:12p Darrell Powe wrister from the top of the left circle has put Flyers up 4-0 at 7:34 of the third.

Third period underway...

• Rolston, Pandolfo and Zajac lead NJ with four shots each.

• Two periods in the books for the Devils' home opener. Jersey's Team staring at a 3-0 deficit heading into the third. Second-period goals came from Laperriere (9:20) and Richards (15:23). Devils are 0-for-4 on the PP, including two 5-on-3s: one for 2:00 and another for 33 seconds.

8:31p Mike Richards has put the Flyers ahead by three. His wraparound off the right post hit off Brodeur's outstretched left skate and flipped into the net. Marty came within inches of an outstanding save. His skate was there in time, just a bad break at 15:23 of the second period.

8:21p- Ian Laperriere squeezes a wrister under Brodeur's blocker arm to make it 2-0 Flyers at 9:20 of the second. He took a cross-ice feed from James Van Riemsdyk and skated to the bottom of the right circle for a sharp-angle shot and his first of the season.

8:16p Devils outshooting Flyers, 9-3, 7:51 into second period. Early PP in this period helped NJ sustain offensive pressure. Chances were there to tie things up.

8:13p "Let's go Devils" chant five minutes into second... Awesome, high-energy crowd tonight.

8:11p Briere skates behind the net and comes away with Brodeur's stick under his arm. Nothing called....

8:10p Missed chance on 33-second 5-on-3 after Emery took 2 for playing puck outside the trapezoid.

8:07p Second period underway...

Devils trail 1-0 after the first period, but will start the second with 44 seconds remaining on Chris Pronger's interference minor. It's their third PP of the game, so far they're 0-for-2.

Zajac robbed on the doorstep after redirecting a Clarkson pass on Emery with 22 seconds left. Paul Martin foiled Claude Giroux's last-second shorthanded breakaway when he chased and stripped the puck off Giroux's stick as the buzzer sounded.

7:48p-Devils on their third PP of the game after Pronger took 2 for interference at 18:44.

7:43p-Carter's second of the season gives PHI the first goal of the game at 15:57. Devils trail 1-0.
Carter skated down the left side and attempted a centering feed to Danny Briere. The pass bounced off Oduya in front; Carter re-gathered the puck and put it inside the right post. Assists to Scott Hartnell and Ryan Parent.

7:39p-ZZ Pops creating big time chances with six to go in the first. Zajac and Parise just misconnect on a 2-on-1. Zajac's backhand redirection drifted just wide of the left post.

7:35p-Second unit was Zajac centering Langenbrunner and Clarkson with Martin and Murphy at the points. Devs misfire on 2 min. 5-on-3 PP.

7:32p-Devils went with Zubrus centering Halischuk and Bergfors with Parise and Rolston at the points on 1st unit. Interesting PP look.

7:30p- First PP of the season coming up with Hartnell and Carter going off. Huge 5-on-3 for the full two minutes at 9:49.

7:29p - Oduya out of box.

7:23p - Cory Murphy bobble at the blueline sends Jeff Carter up ice, Brodeur comes up with a save on Scott Hartnell.

7:17p - Peters-Pelley-Halischuk
