Devils/Prudential Center to Honor Fallen Jersey City Police Officer
Alumni/Jersey City Police Department Memorial Game Set for December 13
Newark, NJ – The New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center will honor fallen Jersey City Detective Marc Anthony DiNardo on Sunday, December 13 with a memorial hockey game. The Jersey City Police Department hockey team will take on a team of New Jersey Devils Alumni in a 3:00 PM match-up at Newark’s Prudential Center.
Detective DiNardo died July 21, 2009, from a gunshot wound he sustained the previous week while on duty. He was a lifelong resident of Jersey City and was a ten-year veteran of its Police Department, serving on the elite Emergency Services Unit. He was also a lifelong hockey fan, who played for the Hudson Catholic Hawk hockey team.
“Prudential Center is honored to celebrate Detective DiNardo and his love for the sport of hockey,” said Jeff Vanderbeek, Chairman and Managing Partner of the New Jersey Devils. “We greatly respect his service to protect Jersey City’s residents and want to help create a lasting memorial to his heroism.”

“Jersey City owes an eternal debt of gratitude to the heroism and service of our police officers and emergency responders,” said Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy. “Every day they place their lives on the line to ensure our safety. Just as our fallen hero Detective Marc Anthony DiNardo loved his city, he also shared a great love of hockey. In dedicating this game in his honor, we are also remembering the totality of his life – most especially his loyal and tireless service to Jersey City, which makes this tribute so fitting.”
“Initially, I started the game simply to memorialize Marc in a manner that befitted him,” said Sergeant Scott McNulty of the Jersey City Police Department, a close friend of DiNardo’s. “He was not a golfer, he was not a softball player, he was a hockey player. I was also trying to create a lasting memory for Marc's children that showed how much their father was loved, respected, and admired.”
Additionally, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of tickets to the Devils/Ottawa Senators game on Friday, December 18 purchased through the Marc DiNardo Memorial Fund will directly benefit the organization.
Tickets for the DiNardo Memorial Hockey Game will be available at the Prudential Center Box Office, located at the corner of Mulberry Street and Edison Place, and at the Jersey City Police Department Sub-Station located in the Newport Mall on the first level.
