Langenbrunner on Modano
Praises quiet leadership
Now 39, Modano is in his 20th season with the Stars, and ranks as the all-time leading scorer among American-born NHLers with 1,344 points.
Modano played in three Olympics, earning a silver medal with Team USA in 2002, but was not chosen for the 2010 squad. Instead, Langenbrunner will be one of the veteran leaders that the U.S. hopes can help them earn a medal in Vancouver.
"Mo was a pretty quiet guy," Langenbrunner said. "At the time I was (in Dallas) with him, there were a lot more vocal leaders. He kind of sat back a little bit and led by example more than with his words. When you have Brett Hull and Joe Nieuwendyk and Guy Carbonneau, Mike Keane and all these vocal leaders in the group, he kind of slid into the more quiet part of it. But in saying that, he was always a guy that led by example and came to play every night. He was a great teammate."
