Clarkson to miss 2-3 weeks
David Clarkson will be out of action for the next two to three weeks, Devils President/CEO/GM Lou Lamoriello announced Tuesday.

Clarkson returned to the lineup on Dec. 28 after missing 13 contests with a non-displaced fracture in his right leg. He played just six minutes in his second game on Dec. 30 after reporting pain.

"There’s no dislocation or anything," Lamoriello said. "Everything is in place. But he also, when he got the blow in Boston (on Nov. 27), he also had surgery there; he had to close the cut up. After reevaluation it was determined, 'Let’s just let the whole thing settle down and let’s just make sure everything is healed without any question.' So no chances will be taken. He will be put into, not a hard cast, the same thing he was in before, a walking cast. We will give it the maximum time so that all precautions are taken."

The right winger was injured after blocking a Zdeno Chara shot. He suffered a leg laceration in the process, and underwent minor surgery in Boston to repair the cut.

Lamoriello said Tuesday's news does not represent a setback.

"It’s the surgery and the wound, as far as where he had the non-displaced fracture," Lamoriello explained. "The fracture is healing 100 percent, there’s nothing that’s displaced; there’s nothing but he felt it a little bit and immediately came off. He rested, all swelling went down; reevaluation, let’s not take any chances; and make sure this is fully healed and give it a few more weeks."

Clarkson was placed on injured reserve, retroactively. Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond was activated for Tuesday's game.

Lamoriello added that Dainius Zubrus (leg, 20 games missed) is expected to begin skating in the "next couple of days." Paul Martin remains out of the lineup (non-displaced forearm fracture, 31 games missed).
