On March 17, 2009, Brodeur surpassed Patrick Roy with career victory No. 552 when he stopped 30 shots in a 3-2 decision over the Chicago Blackhawks. Since that memorable night at Prudential Center, Brodeur has won 47 more games to raise that record-breaking total to 599 victories -- leaving him one shy of milestone victory No. 600. He'll look to obtain that mark Tuesday when the Devils travel to Philips Arena in Atlanta to face the Thrashers.
Brodeur's League-high 42nd victory of the season and career victory No. 599 came Saturday when he turned aside 26 shots in a 4-0 victory over Carolina at RBC Center.
He's already the NHL's career record holder in games played (1,072), shutouts (109), minutes played (63,281) and most 40-win seasons (eight).
"Yeah, 600 is just a big number, so hopefully we continue the way we're going and I'm able to get it," Brodeur told NHL.com. "It's been a great ride and the numbers are piling up and it's a good sign because it means we've been successful as a team."
When Brodeur won his 400th game in Florida during the 2003-04 season, he became the youngest (31) and the fastest (735 games) goalie to reach that mark.
