White contributes rare goal to series-tying win
NEWARK, N.J. -- New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur admits having flashbacks to his team's 2000 Stanley Cup run when veteran defenseman Colin White connected for his first playoff goal in 10 years.

White's second-period goal in Game 2 on Friday at Prudential Center was his first postseason tally since April 29, 2000, at Air Canada Centre when he fired home the game-winner in a 1-0 decision over the Toronto Maple Leafs. It was White's rookie season in the League.

"You always have these memories of guys and when I saw him score the goal I kind of flashed back in 2000, seeing (Ken Daneyko) score against Dallas," Brodeur said. "It's funny that I get these flashbacks when he scored. It's nice for guys that pay the price and play the game hard to get rewarded with a goal."

For White, a ninth-season veteran, notching a goal was nice, but getting the victory to even the best-of-7 series at 1-1 was even better.

"The win is the nicest part about (Friday)," said White, who played in 81 of 82 regular-season games this season. "We're excited and now it's on to Philly. They have a tough building to play in."

White was emotionally involved in Friday's contest. Not only did he notch his first point of the playoffs, but he dished a team-high 3 hits and blocked one shot in 18:53 of ice time.

"After the first, we were down (2-1) and we talked amongst ourselves and said we needed to pick our game up," White said. "We can't sit around and wait for it to happen. We had to go out and do something. I think everybody picked their game up from that point on."

"You win games in the playoffs when other guys step up," Devils captain Jamie Langenbrunner said. "A lot of times, top players are taken out, so it's nice to see Whitey get one. That's a big plus and we played a good team game on top of that."
