Devils fall in overtime
PHILADELPHIA – Dan Carcillo scores the winner 3:35 into the extra session, set up by Mike Richards. Martin Brodeur was outstanding tonight, making 31 saves. Devils managed 19 shots, with Brian Rolston tallying two PPGs in the contest.

On the winning goal, Richards shoveled the puck toward the net mouth from Brodeur's left. Looked like Brodeur thought he had the puck in his pads, but it snuck loose in front to Carcillo, who put it into the open left side. Game 4 is Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Brodeur another aggressive play to poke puck away from breaking Van Riemsdyk...

What a save by Brodeur on Carter in the opening minute of OT, flashed left pad, Carter stationed all alone in front!

OVERTIME UNDERWAY...

THIRD PERIOD COMPLETE... We're headed to the first OT of the series. No goals in the third. Devils were outshot, 12-3, in the frame, and 28-18, overall. Martin Brodeur had 12 of his 26 saves in the final frame.

Flyers have been good in this third frame, Marty has been better. Two minutes left.

Hartnell sets up Briere for what turned into a 2-on-0, Marty huge save on Briere with 6:19 left in regulation. Devils bending, but not breaking here despite being outshot, 10-3, in the third.

White plasters Hartnell at center with seven minutes left...

PK4 - Niedermayer off for slashing at 9:04. Flyers are 1/3 so far. Parise furious effort on the PK, taking hit from Coburn, eating time in the Flyers zone.

PP8 - Crowd quieted by another Philly penalty. Devils are 2/7 with the man advantage, going back on the PP at 6:01 of the third, with the game tied, 2-2.

PK3 - Clarkson tripping at 1:56. Devils kill it off, 2/3 on PK.

THIRD PERIOD UNDERWAY...

SECOND PERIOD COMPLETE: Tied, 2-2. Richards gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead at 1:15 mark, Rolston answered with his second on the PP with 3:22 left in the second. Kovalchuk has assisted on both tallies, giving him a goal and four assists in the series. Devils are matching Philly's intensity in front of a rabid homecrowd, and are outhitting the Flyers, 26-25.

PP7 - Betts for slashing at 18:38. Devils are 2/6 on the PP thanks to two goals by Rolston.

PP6 - Zubrus draws interference on Coburn at 15:32. Zubie was trying to get around the Flyer net; Coburn held him up, knocking net off mooring. Rolston slapper through Zubrus screen ties it up at 2-2! Rolston's second PPG of the game...

BIG HIT by Fraser on Van Riemsdyk with 5:41 left 2nd. Nice play by the rookie in his first NHL postseason contest.

Gagne cranks shot off right elbow of the net from right circle with 8:38 left... Flyers applying heavy pressure here, but Devils are keeping it a 2-1 game. Devils call timeout with 8:30 left in 2nd; they're outshooting Philadelphia 8-3 in this period.

Parise-Elias-Zubrus.. Zubie tries similar wraparound play to one that yielded winning goal in Game 2. 11:27 left in 2nd.

Kovy-Zajac-Langenbrunner line mounts nice rush up ice with 12:33 remaining 2nd. Devils getting pucks to Boucher, have tied Flyers with 10 shots apiece. NJ outshooting them 5-2 so far in period.

Devils continue pressure after PP5... Niedermayer line looked like it was still on the man advantage.

PP5 - Asham hooking at 4:18.

Corrente looked like he was taken down on partial breakaway by Krajicek.. no call.

Flyers pull ahead 2-1 on Richards goal. Gagne's hit on Fraser forced a turnover behind the net, Carcillo centered for Richards at 1:15.

SECOND PERIOD UNDERWAY...

FIRST PERIOD COMPLETE, TIED 1-1: Brian Rolston's PPG gives Devils a 1-0 lead at 7:15. Claude Giroux's PPG answered for the Flyers at 8:49. Flyers led the shots count, 8-5. Devils will try to improve in the circles after winning four of 14 draws. Intense opening frame, hits were 10 apiece.

PK 2 - Devils whistled for too many men on the ice with 2:24 left in the first. Clarkson serves it.

All this time with the power play has to give the Devils a nice lift coming into hostile territory. So far, the PP is 1/4.

PP4 - Salvador, Hartnell each get minors for roughing; Ryan Parent gets interference minor. Devils fourth PP of the first period at 10:00.

PK1- Corrente off for high sticking at 8:27. Timonen's cross-ice slap pass found Giroux at the side of the net for a PPG tap-in at 8:49. Game tied, 1-1.

PP3 - Devils take a 1-0 lead at 7:15... Rolston settled a pass from Kovalchuk at the blueline, then ripped a slapshot by Boucher's glove side for a PPG. Rolston's first of the series, 18th postseason goal of his career. Huge goal to quiet this crowd. Devils lead, 1-0.

Devils being served a great chance to take the first lead here. Timonen off for hooking Parise... Devils on third PP and we're just 6:57 into the first period.

PP2 - Rolston pass found Zajac breaking backdoor, puck went off Zajac's shaft... Devils open 0-for-2 on PP.

Right back on the PP after Laperriere trips Andy Greene at 3:33...

PP1 - Zajac wrister sneaked through Boucher, swept away as it neared the goal line...
