Devils select Scott Wedgewood in 3rd round
First goalie drafted by the Devils since Jeff Frazee in 2005
With their second pick of 2010, Jersey's Team selected Scott Wedgewood of Plymouth (OHL) in the third round, 84th overall. This year marked the 20th anniversary since the Devils grabbed franchise cornerstone and future Hall of Famer Martin Brodeur with the 20th overall pick in 1990.
Wedgewood, who turns 18 on August 14, went 5-9-0 with a 3.26 goals-against average, .909 save percentage and one shutout as a rookie last season. The 6-1, 192-lb. netminder hails from Etobicoke, Ontario.
For only 18 appearances behind Plymouth No. 1 Matt Hackett, Wedgewood collected some stellar performances. He recorded 70 saves in a 3-2 overtime loss to Windsor on April 7, and produced a remarkable 51 stops versus Kingston on Nov. 28.
He blanked Saginaw with 35 saves to notch his first career shutout on Dec. 12 and was named the game's First Star.
