Mair pleased with strong start at camp
"Feels good," Mair said. "I think it's been intense; it's been a good, skating camp so far with a lot of focus on the on-ice stuff, which is nice, getting right down to system and understanding the way we want to play as a team. It's not like you have five or six weeks anymore. It's three weeks and you're right into the real thing. I think teams recognize that and focus right away on how they want to play."
Mair scored the first of three straight Devils' goals in the preseason opener at Philadelphia.
"It felt nice to be able to contribute, especially early," he said. "I went to the net and lot of times good things will happen when you get there."
After 10 seasons with Toronto, Los Angeles and Buffalo, Mair knows what he can bring: "It's a role player role, an energy role, a third-, fourth-line role."
With four days of practices and an exhibition game under his belt, the veteran was upbeat about his performance to this point.
"I think things are going well so far," he said. "It's still very early, but it's just going out and playing hockey and doing what you love to do. You've been doing it your whole life, so it should come easy."
