Devils defenseman Matt Taormina will be a guest on today's NHL Live at 1:30 p.m. The rookie rearguard has made a big impression so far, collecting a goal and two assists in six games to lead Devils' defenders in scoring.
Taormina recorded his first NHL point last Wednesday at Buffalo, setting up Ilya Kovalchuk's overtime goal that clinched New Jersey's first win of the season. In the Devils' next outing versus Colorado, Taormina notched his first career goal and added an assist for his first multi-point game.
A native of Warren, Mich., Taormina signed with the Devils as a free agent in February. Never drafted, he played four seasons at Providence College (Hockey East). He turns 24 on Oct. 20.
