Brodeur named NHL\'s Third Star

Having backstopped the resurgent Devils to a red-hot start in the second half, Martin Brodeur on Monday was named the NHL's Third Star for the week ending Jan. 23.

Boston goaltender Tim Thomas and Tampa Bay center Steven Stamkos took First and Second Star honors, respectively.

Brodeur posted a 3-0-0 record, 1.34 goals-against average and .949 save percentage, helping to guide the Devils (16-29-3) to a season-high four-game winning streak and a 6-0-1 mark in their last seven games.

He stopped 27 shots in a 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders on Jan. 17 and made 23 saves in recording his 114th career shutout in a 2-0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Jan. 20. He finished the week with a 24-save performance in a 5-2 victory over the Florida Panthers Jan. 23.

The 38-year-old Montreal native improved his season record to 10-18-2 with a 2.84 goals-against average, .894 save percentage and four shutouts in 34 appearances.
