Anton Volchenkov doesn’t even need a slapshot to break the glass at Prudential Center.

Near the end of Wednesday’s morning skate, Volchenkov flipped a puck that shattered a pane above the American Red Cross sign near the penalty boxes. Arena workers had to come out and bring down the glass still left standing.

Assistant coach Larry Robinson helped out, grabbing a shovel to pick up the glass shards along the boards.

Devils blueliners were awed by the A-Train’s brute strength.

“That’s impressive if he can do that with a flipper,” said Henrik Tallinder. “Imagine what he can do with a slapshot.”

Andy Greene didn’t actually see the glass break, but heard the aftermath.

“I always thought those things were shatterproof, but I guess not, huh?” Greene said. “I just literally turned around, you know how you just hear the noise and you obviously know what happened at that point. Sometimes it’s just the right spot.”

Greene added, “He is a horse.”

Volchenkov is eligible to return on Friday from a three-game suspension.
