Playoff update - 3/14
Buffalo's 6-4 win over Ottawa on Sunday gave the Sabres 76 points, moving them into a points tie with the Rangers. The Sabres sit in seventh place because they have one game in hand on the Rangers, who won a shootout at San Jose on Saturday night.
The Devils (32-32-4, 68 pts) beat the Islanders in overtime on Saturday and have three teams directly ahead of them: the Hurricanes with 72 points, and the Maple Leafs and Thrashers, each with 70. Saturday's comeback win had temporarily gotten the Devils within six points of eighth.
With 14 games remaining, New Jersey holds one in hand on Buffalo, Carolina, Toronto and Atlanta, and two on the Rangers.
The Devils host Atlanta on Tuesday, then play a back-to-back Thursday at Ottawa and Friday at home versus Washington. They visit Columbus on Sunday for their final encounter with the Western Conference this season.
Toronto was set to host Tampa Bay on Monday. On Tuesday, the Rangers host the Islanders, and Carolina visits Buffalo.
