"Devils on the Rise" will air Monday, June 13 at 9 p.m. on MSG. The program starts in 1983-84 with a game from the team’s second season in New Jersey, a significant 13-4 loss at the hands of Edmonton, after which Wayne Gretzky famously called the Devils a “Mickey Mouse organization.”
After five years of mediocrity, the franchise took a significant step forward on April 3, 1988 with an overtime win at Chicago that clinched the first-ever playoff berth for the team. Less than two weeks later, the Devils defeated the New York Islanders to win their first playoff series, which set a new bar for the franchise and its fans. Interviews include Devils’ broadcaster Chico Resch, legend Ken Daneyko, 1987 first-round draft pick Brendan Shanahan and long-time President/CEO/General Manager Lou Lamoriello.
Hosted by Al Trautwig, the MSG Vault series offers a look back at some of the most memorable Madison Square Garden and New York-area sports moments. Each one-hour episode includes interviews with players, owners and other key personnel, as well as historical footage pulled from the network’s vault of over 90,000 tapes.
“MSG’s Vault” is part of Classic Mondays on MSG Network’s “Summer Block Party,” which features themed programming blocks every night starting at 7:00 p.m. throughout the summer.
