Devils select Reece Scarlett in sixth round

Scarlett participated in the 2011 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.

ST. PAUL -- The Devils selected defenseman Reece Scarlett with their seventh-round pick, 159th overall, on Saturday.

The 6-0, 164 lb.-Edmonton native put up six goals, 18 assists for 24 points in 72 games to lead Swift Current (WHL) blueliners. He was named the Broncos' top defenseman and finished seventh overall in scoring.

Scarlett was ranked 57th among North American players by Central Scouting.

"Our western people were extremely aggressive to the point where he was a different level," said Devils' Director of Scouting David Conte. "From positional considerations, it was something I think we had to do to support both their opinions, but also in recognition of his talent."
