The Devils will be without the services of Travis Zajac and Anton Volchenkov for tonight's matchup with Boston.
Zajac (lower body) misses his first game since coming back from offseason Achilles tendon surgery. Sidelined for 30 games to start the season, Zajac has a goal and two assists in eight games since his return.
Volchenkov (lower body) will miss his second straight contest since he was hurt in the first period of Saturday's win over Pittsburgh.
"Volchenkov, we're still resting his leg, and Travis we're going to rest him," said Devils President, CEO, GM Lou Lamoriello. "He has a little soreness and we won’t take any chances. We’ve spoken to the doctors, and there’s nothing structurally wrong, he’s OK, but we’re going to rest him. He’ll be day-to-day."
Lamoriello explained that what Zajac's feeling is par for the course with long-term injury.
"Yes, this is normal," he said. "We asked the doctors the same thing. This is normal. Zach went through it, anybody with these types of injuries. There’s going to be soreness that you feel some days. It’s a harder rehabilitation. We actually waited a week more than we had to from when the doctor released him. But we’re going to take every precaution we possibly can."
Lamoriello also updated the status of defenseman Andy Greene, who will miss his 13th game with a non-displaced toe fracture."
"He’s in a walking boot now, so the cast is off," he said. "He’ll be another couple of weeks."
Martin Brodeur will start with Johan Hedberg backing up.
