Martin Brodeur

Newark, NJ – The New Jersey Devils have re-signed goaltender Martin Brodeur to a new contract. The announcement was made by Devils’ President/CEO/General Manager Lou Lamoriello. As per club policy, no further terms were disclosed.

Brodeur, a member of all three of New Jersey’s Stanley Cup Championship teams, will enter his 19th NHL season. He appeared in 59 games last season, recording a 31-21-4 mark, with three shutouts and a 2.41 goals-against average. The 6-2, 220-lb. netminder started all 24 playoff games en-route to the Stanley Cup Finals, posting a 14-9 mark with one shutout and a 2.12 goals-against average. His 1,191 regular-season games, 656 victories and 119 shutouts are all tops among goaltenders in NHL history. Brodeur’s 113 playoff victories are second all-time, while his 24 shutouts are first.

Among his NHL accolades are four Vezina Trophies, five Jennings Trophies and the Calder Memorial Trophy. Born May 6, 1972 in Montreal, Que., he was named to the NHL’s First All-Star Team three times, Second All-Star Team four times, and has played in nine mid-season All-Star Games. He has led the NHL in games played six times, wins nine times and shutouts on five occasions. Brodeur was New Jersey’s first choice and 20th overall selection of the 1990 Entry Draft.

Brodeur has represented Team Canada at the Olympic Winter Games four times, winning the Gold Medal in 2002 and 2010. He also represented Canada at two World Championships, and two World Cup tournaments, winning the championship in 2004.
