Bryce Salvador

New Jersey Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello has re-signed his highest-scoring defenseman from the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs -- Bryce Salvador.

After sitting out an entire 82-game season in 2010-11 with an inner-ear concussion, Salvador was just one of two defensemen in the Devils' lineup to play in all 82 regular-season games this past season. He played a major role in New Jersey's run to the Stanley Cup Final.

In 24 postseason games, he finished a plus-9, connecting for four goals and 14 points. His stay-at-home style complemented defense partner Marek Zidlicky, who enjoyed the offensive end. Salvador's 14 points in the playoffs ranked second in the playoffs among NHL defensemen. He also ranked fourth with 54 hits and ninth with 34 blocked shots.

Salvador had no goals, nine assists and a plus-18 rating in his fourth season with the Devils in 2011-12. He has 23 goals, 102 points and a plus-10 rating in 692 career games spanning 10 NHL seasons.

Lamoriello had nothing but praise for Salvador at the end of the season.

"I'm just so happy for Sal," Lamoriello said in June. "The year that he put in last year and not knowing whether he'd ever play again up until the middle of the summer and the work put in to get himself back, the exercises and all of the above, he is such a quality individual. There are stories within stories of this team this year and he is certainly one of the big ones that had gone unnoticed."
