Prospect Watch - Dec. 17

Team USA's World Junior training camp opened Sunday in Tarrytown, N.Y., and runs through Tuesday. Devils 2012 first-rounder Stefan Matteau and 2011 fifth-rounder Blake Pietila are both on the 27-man preliminary roster.

Matteau, a left wing, has 15 goals, 10 assists for Blainville-Boisbriand (QMJHL) this season, including a November that saw him collect eight goals, four assists in 11 games. Pietila, a forward, has 10 goals and two helpers in 17 games with Michigan Tech (WCHA).

An additional training camp is set for Helsinki before the final 23-man roster is announced on Dec. 23. The IIHF World Junior Championship takes place Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 in Ufa, Russia.

• Prospect Reid Boucher had a productive weekend for Sarnia (OHL), notching three goals, two assists in two contests and extending his points streak to three games (4g-2a). The Devils' 2011 fourth-round pick now has 25 goals and 15 assists in 34 games.

• Damon Severson tallied two goals, nine assists during a recent five-game points streak for Kelowna (WHL). The Devils' 2012 second-round pick leads Rockets defensemen with 22 points (5g-17a), including two goals and 10 helpers in eight December games. Severson notched this goal on the power play in Saturday's action. Watch at 1:15.

• Graham Black's second effort on Sunday resulted in his 15th of the year for Swift Current (WHL). Watch it at 0:26.

• Goaltending prospect Scott Wedgewood (7-7-1) made 32 saves in +Trenton Titans Hockey 4-2 win over Wheeling on Friday. The Titans also got two goals from Kelly Zajac. Watch the highlights here.
