Four seniors, two juniors, and one freshman are players to watch

High School Players of the Month for January Announced

The New Jersey Devils announced on Monday the recipients of the High School Player of the Month awards for January 2013. Alex Fleishmann of Paramus Catholic, Robert Marsanico of Don Bosco, Grant Jozefek of Mendham, N.G. Welsh of St. Joseph - Metuchen, Matt Langlois of Christian Brothers Academy, Alec Astorga of Nutley, and Steven Anderson of Notre Dame received the honors.

Fleishmann has scored 24 goals and tallied 30 assists on the season, giving the senior forward a total of 54 points. He scored 14 goals in the month of January, leading Paramus Catholic to their current 20-1 record.

Marsanico has amassed 18 goals on the season, and totaled 19 of his 40 points in the month of January. The play of the junior forward has helped lead Don Bosco to a 14-7 record.

Jozefek has helped Mendham earn a 17-2-2 record with his astonishing play, scoring 22 of his 47 goals in January. He has also tallied 46 assists, leaving the freshman forward with a total of 93 points so far on the season.

Welsh has led St. Joseph of Metuchen with 22 goals on the season, 12 of which came in the month of January. The senior forward now has a total of 45 points on the season, helping St. Joseph to a 14-2-2 record.

Langlois has tallied 26 goals on the season, with 11 of those goals coming last month, helping him earn the honors for January. The senior forward has 49 points on the season that have helped Christian Brothers Academy to a record of 18-2-2.

Astorga has been a rock between the pipes for a Nutley squad that is currently 17-1-3. He stopped 164 of 174 shots against him in January, leaving the junior goaltender with an astounding .943 save percentage.

Anderson was a wall in net for Notre Dame in January. He stopped 157 of 172 shots against him in January, for a save percentage of .912. The senior goaltender has helped lead his Notre Dame team to an 18-3-2 record.

Winners of this award will each receive a plaque, dinner, and tickets to an upcoming game all courtesy of the New Jersey Devils. The 2012-2013 campaign marks the 21st season that the New Jersey Devils are honoring the state’s top-performing high school athletes.
