Devils captain Bryce Salvador (upper body) did not travel with the team to Carolina and will miss Saturday's game against the Hurricanes.
Salvador will be out of the lineup for the first time since a concussion forced him to miss all of the 2010-11 season. He played in all 82 games last season for the first time in his career.
Salvador leads the Devils in blocked shots (53) and averages a third-best 21:55 of ice time. New Jersey's blue line will also be without Henrik Tallinder (lower body), who was hurt in warm-ups on Thursday and did not make the trip to Carolina.
