The Non-Public Championship of the 2013 NJSIAA High School Ice Hockey Tournament was a hard-fought battle throughout, but top seed Delbarton proved why they received that seed as they defeated third seed Don Bosco Prep 4-0.

The game began with Don Bosco earning the majority of the scoring chances as they led the first period in shots 8-3. A Khan Kim penalty put Don Bosco shorthanded late in the period, but Delbarton could not connect.

The second period began the transition in momentum, as the majority of scoring chances went in favor of the Green Wave. Robert Marsanico received a tripping penalty at 8:21 of the period, and Delbarton took full advantage as Michael Gilfillan scored 19 seconds into the man-advantage giving Delbarton a 1-0 lead.

Delbarton would increase their lead 82 seconds later on a goal by Kevin Delaney, making the score 2-0 in favor of the Green Wave.

Don Bosco would then call a timeout to attempt to slow down the Green Wave, but it would prove to have no effect as JC MacLean scored at the 11:14 mark to increase the lead to 3-0. Delbarton would out shoot Don Bosco 11-5 in the period.

Delbarton would go on to add another goal in the third period, as Kevin Lewis scored 27 seconds into the period increasing the lead to 4-0, and it would stay that way for the remaninder of the game. Goaltender Brian Forness stopped all 23 Ironmen shots in the victory.

The win gives Delbarton their sixth consecutive Non-Public bracket title since the NJSIAA changed to the current playoff format in 2008, and their eighth overall state championship since 2002.

The Public B Championship game was yet another close contest, as neither team could find the net through the first two periods. But Chatham broke through in the third period, scoring three goals en route to taking the Public B title.

In what was a physical first period, the end-to-end action saw Chatham out shoot Morristown 10-6, but no goals were netted.

In the second period, Morristown took two penalties roughly halfway through the period, but both would be killed off as the Colonials kept the game tied at zero. Morristown would then have a chance to redeem themselves after Chatham took a boarding penalty at the 11:05 mark of the period, but Morristown could not find the net. Chatham would continue to hold the momentum through the end of the period, as the Cougars led in shots 19-11 heading into the third.

5:20 into the final period, Chatham broke the ice as Brett Montgomery scored to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

Momentum seemed to be shifting in favor of Morristown as Chatham took a bench minor for too many men on the ice at the 10:43 mark of the period, but continued to pour on the pressure as Brian Leonard scored a shorthanded goal on a beautiful move giving the Courgars a 2-0 lead.

Colby Collier added an empty net goal at 13:35 of the third to make it 3-0, sealing the deal for the Cougars as the Public B fifth seed Cougars defeated the third seed Colonials.

In the Public A Championship, two seed Randolph sucessfully defended their title as they defeated five seed Bridgewater-Raritan 4-1.

Randolph open the scoring at the 6:20 mark of the first period as Dan Janson made a nice move around a Panther defenseman and found the net to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. The period ended with Randolph leading 8-5 in shots.

At 6:25 in the second period, Brett Goldstein took a tripping penalty for the Panthers, sending Randolph to a power play where they would increase their lead.

Stefan Tamminga scored on the power play for the Rams making the score 2-0. Luke Wright would score for Randolph at 10:46 increasing the lead to 3-0.

Eight seconds later, however, Bridgewater-Raritan would respond as Jordan Peterson found the net cutting the Randolph lead to 3-1. The score would remain that way heading into the third period.

Luke Wright would score his second goal of the game for the Rams at 5:45 into the third. His tally would cap off the scoring, as Randolph would go on to out shoot the Panthers 31-11 en route to the victory.

With the win, Randolph secured their fourth Public A title in the last six seasons since the NJSIAA changed to their current playoff format, and their seventh state championship overall in the last 11 seasons.
