Major junior playoffs under way; NCAA tourney opens this week

D Joe Faust and the Wisconsin Badgers claimed the WCHA Final Five title with a 3-2 win over Colorado College on Saturday. Wisconsin was one of six WCHA squads to earn an NCAA Men's Div. I tournament berth; the Badgers open Northeast Regional action against top-seeded UMass-Lowell Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET in Manchester, New Hampshire.

F Derek Rodwell and North Dakota (WCHA) face Niagara at the West Regional in Grand Rapids, Mich., this Friday. Puck drop is set for 5:30 p.m. ET.

LW Blake Coleman and the Miami RedHawks (CCHA) will begin the NCAA men's tourney against Minnesota State in Midwest Regional play Saturday at 5 p.m. ET in Toledo, Ohio.

D Jon Merrill had two assists in Michigan's (CCHA) win over the RedHawks on Saturday. The Wolverines fell to Notre Dame in Sunday's CCHA title game.

Devils' 2012 first-round pick LW Stefan Matteau had an assist in back-to-back games Thursday and Friday, helping Blainville-Boisbriand (QMJHL) take a 2-0 lead in its first-round series with Acadie-Bathurst. Game 3 is Tuesday at Bathurst.

LW Reid Boucher has two goals and an assist in two games for Sarnia (OHL), which trails Plymouth, 2-0, in their best-of-seven opening-round playoff series. Boucher, whose 62 goals set a regular-season record for the Sting, had a goal and an assist in Friday's Game 1, and struck again Saturday in Game 2. The best-of-seven shifts to Sarnia for Game 3 on Monday.

D Damon Severson posted a goal and two assists for the Kelowna Rockets (WHL) in Game 1 of their first-round series with Seattle on Friday, but the Thunderbirds left Kelowna with a pair of overtime victories and a 2-0 series lead. Game 3 of the best-of-seven is Tuesday in Seattle.

LW Ben Thomson and Kitchener (OHL) took a 2-0 series lead over Guelph with victories Friday and Sunday. Game 3 is Tuesday in Guelph.

C Graham Black notched a goal and two assists through two games of Swift Current's (WHL) best-of-seven set with Calgary, though the Broncos trail the series 2-0. D Reece Scarlett chipped in with an assist in Game 1. Game 3 is Monday night in Swift Current.

C Artur Gavrus has a goal and two assists through two games for Owen Sound (OHL), which has a 2-0 series lead on Sault Ste. Marie heading into Monday's Game 3 at the Soo.
