Matteau, Armada into QMJHL semifinals

Stefan Matteau and the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada have swept their way through the second round to the QMJHL semifinals. Matteau notched two goals and three assists in the Armada's quarterfinal triumph over Val-d'Or, which concluded Wednesday with a 2-1 victory in Game 4.
The 2012 first-round pick has collected three goals – including one game-winner – and five assists for eight points in nine games, and has been held off the scoresheet only twice in the playoffs.
Blainville-Boisbriand, which is 8-1 this postseason, opens its semifinal series in Baie-Comeau on Friday.
Maxime Clermont made 27 saves Saturday to keep Elmira alive with a 5-1 Game 5 victory over Florida. Game 6 of the best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarterfinal is Monday in Florida.
Artur Gavrus and the Owen Sound Attack saw their postseason conclude Sunday with a 3-1 loss to Plymouth in Game 6. Gavrus notched a goal and two assists in the series, giving him three goals, five assists in 12 playoff games. Two of his tallies were game-winners.
Ben Thomson and the Kitchener Rangers are out of the playoffs after falling in five games to London on Friday. Thomson chipped in a goal and two assists to go with 18 penalty minutes in 10 postseason contests.
Damon Severson and the Kelowna Rockets were eliminated Wednesday after being swept by Kamloops in the second round. Severson was second among WHL blueliners with 10 points (1g-9a) in 11 postseason contests.
The Rockets rallied from down 3-0 in their first-round meeting with Seattle to take the series in seven.
