Devils re-sign Patrik Elias
Elias, a member of New Jersey’s Stanley Cup Championship teams in 2000 and 2003, has spent his entire 15-year NHL career with the Devils. He was one of six Devils’ players, and one of just four forwards, to appear in all 48 games last season. Elias scored 14 goals which were second on the team, while leading the squad in assists with 22 and points with 36. The 6-1, 195-lb. forward is the franchise’s all-time leader with 375 goals/555 assists/930 points. His 1,090 career games played ranks him third all-time in franchise history. He has led the squad in assists six times and points eight times.
Elias is also the franchise’s leader in playoff goals (45), assists (80) and points (125), while his games-played total (162) ranks third. Born April 13, 1976 in Trebic, Czech Rep., he was named to the NHL’s First All-Star Team in 2001, All-Rookie Team in 1998, and has played in three mid-season All-Star Games (2000, 2002, 2011). Elias also tied for the NHL lead in plus/minus with a +45 mark in 2000-01. He was New Jersey’s second choice and 51st overall selection in the 1994 Entry Draft.
He has represented the Czech Republic at the Olympic Winter Games three times, winning the Bronze Medal in 2006. He also participated in four World Championships, and the 2004 World Cup of Hockey.
