Krys Barch and Peter DeBoer on Barch's three-fight night

Call it another day at the office for Krys Barch.

After going three, bruising rounds with Brett Gallant in Thursday's preseason loss to the Islanders, Barch was right back on the ice for practice Friday morning.

"My wife's had a semi-handsome individual for three months," Barch said. "It's about time that I started getting a little ugly."

Barch battled Gallant twice in the first period, then again in the third, when Barch sealed the win with an uppercut. Ryan Carter and Stephen Gionta each had scraps of their own to cap the five-fight contest.

"Get 'em all out [of the way] in one game," Barch joked.

Head coach Peter DeBoer singled out Barch as one of the game's bright spots and had more praise for him on Friday.

"I have a ton of respect for guys like that, just because that has to be the toughest job in hockey, to do that three times in a night," DeBoer said. "It's one thing to be a goal scorer and be asked to go out and try to score a goal or be a shut-down D and shut somebody down, but to go out and do that, you have to admire the courage of the guys who play that role."

Barch is embracing his role to make a strong impression. 

"I think everybody is, doesn't matter who you are," he said. "I think you look at our top six, those guys are battling for a spot in the top six, if you're going to be on the power play. Certain guys like that, who if you don't play on the top six, where are they going to play?

"There's different roles for different guys. I don't think about that. I think you go out and you do what you've got to do for the team and to get two points. Even in the scrimmages, you always look at wins and losses and you always want to be on the right side of the wins."
