Devils sign forward Damien Brunner
Newark, NJ – The New Jersey Devils today signed free agent Damien Brunner to a new contract. The announcement was made by Devils’ President/General Manager Lou Lamoriello. As per club policy, no further terms were disclosed.
Brunner, 27, was signed by the Devils to a professional tryout agreement on September 16. He has played in two pre-season contests since, recording two assists. The 5-10, 185-lb. forward posted 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points and 12 penalty minutes in 44 games with Detroit last season. He added a team-leading five goals and four assists for nine points in 14 post-season contests.
Brunner signed with the Red Wings as a free agent July 1, 2012, and began the 2012-13 campaign with EV Zug (Swiss). In 2011-12, he was named to the Swiss National League A (NLA) All-Star Team and Forward of the Year, after leading the league with 36 assists/60 points. He also led the NLA in playoff scoring with 14 points in nine games.
Born March 9, 1986 in Oberlunkhofen, Switzerland, he played in the NLA for seven seasons from 2006-07 through 2012-13. Brunner represented Switzerland at the 2010 and 2012 World Championships, leading his country with seven points in 2012.
