Coach Peter DeBoer updated this morning that Patrik Elias and Stephen Gionta would be game-time decisions for tonight's home meeting with Los Angeles.

Elias, who has missed six games with an upper body injury, hopes to make his first appearance since Oct. 29.

"It's something you feel you should be getting better with, but it's frustrating when you don't, especially for that long," Elias said after the morning skate.

Cory Schneider will be in goal for the Devils (6-7-5) who take aim at their first three-game winning streak of the season. Tonight will mark their first matchup against the Kings since the 2012 Stanley Cup Final.

"Boy, it seems like a long time ago," DeBoer said. "We don't talk about [having extra motivation against the Kings]. There's some familiarity there with individual players and tendencies, just because, you get to that point, you spend a lot of time breaking down the other team. I haven't mentioned [defenseman Drew] Doughty's name in 18 months, and then this morning, that's all I talked about."

Martin Brodeur, who expects to start Saturday versus Pittsburgh, was asked what he remembers about the 2012 run.

"That we lost," he said. "It's always tough, teams that take away something that you really want, and the Kings did two [seasons] ago. You kind of learn to hate them because of that."

The Devils fell behind 3-0 in the series but rallied to force a Game 6 that the Kings eventually won to capture their first-ever Stanley Cup.

"It was a fun run," said Brodeur. "The first series [vs. Florida], it took us everything to get out of it. The Panthers played it really well and we had some good performances at the end from players that we needed to pass them. After that, we played rivalry teams: the Flyers and the Rangers. You built a lot of good emotions as far as teammates are concerned because of these kinds of wins."

Brodeur continued, "It kind of makes you taste [getting close to a championship]. It's kind of fun to try and do it again."
