Jon Merrill's first NHL game didn't go the way he'd hoped, but he said Saturday he's back to feeling good again.
"I don't think that's the way anyone wants their first one to go," Merrill said. "Luckily, I'm feeling great again and back to 100 percent and excited."
Merrill took part in a limited morning skate with forwards Jacob Josefson and Mattias Tedenby and goaltender Martin Brodeur, who was set to start Saturday's home meeting with Pittsburgh.
"It's great," Merrill said of finally being back on the ice. "Sitting there and not being able to do anything, it's a little frustrating. But it's really exciting and great to be back out there."
The Devils' second-round pick in 2010 has missed the last five games. He sustained facial lacerations when he crashed heavily into the boards after being tripped by Minnesota's Torrey Mitchell. He left the game and did not return.
Merrill did take one souvenir away from his first game.
"I think I'll have a pretty nice scar to remember it by," he said.
